Complex bone and joint surgery
Referrals are welcome from general practitioners, oncologists and orthopaedic colleagues.
Orthopaedic oncology
Primary bone and soft-tissue tumours, metastatic bone disease, and pathological or impending fractures. Limb-salvage surgery with endoprosthetic reconstruction after tumour resection.
Revision arthroplasty
Revision hip and knee replacement for loosening, wear, instability or periprosthetic fracture, including reconstruction of major bone loss.
Orthopaedic sepsis
Prosthetic joint infection, chronic osteomyelitis and fracture-related infection, managed with single- or two-stage surgery alongside infectious disease colleagues.
Trauma
Fracture care from acute injury through to non-union, malunion and post-traumatic deformity.

Dr Klopper is a fellow to Dr Thomas Hilton, orthopaedic tumour and infection surgeon. They share rooms in Pinelands and manage rare and complex cases together. Appointments with either surgeon are made through the same reception.

Dr Schalk Willem Klopper is a specialist orthopaedic surgeon in Cape Town. He trained at Groote Schuur Hospital through the University of Cape Town and is now a fellow to Dr Thomas Hilton in orthopaedic oncology, revision arthroplasty and orthopaedic sepsis.
His clinical work covers bone and soft-tissue tumours, metastatic bone disease, failed and infected joint replacements, and orthopaedic trauma. Treatment plans for complex cases are made with medical and radiation oncology, radiology, pathology and infectious disease specialists.
He remains involved at Groote Schuur Hospital with the UCT Orthopaedic Oncology (sarcoma) and Reconstructive units, and is a research affiliate in orthopaedic oncology. He is the Groote Schuur lead for the International Bone Metastasis Registry (IBMR), the first African centre to contribute to it, and a member of the LUMiC Study Group on periacetabular reconstruction.
